Wonderful World (Elvis Presley song)
"Wonderful World" is a 1968 song written by Guy Fletcher and Doug Flett and sung by Elvis Presley in the film ''Live a Little, Love a Little'', released in October 1968.
〔(''Live A Little, Love a Little'' (1968) ), entry at the Internet Movie Database showing US release date of October 1968, retrieved 4 June 2014〕〔Gillian G. Gaar, ''Return of the King: Elvis Presley's Great Comeback'', 2011: ''The only track laid down on the 21st was 'The Fair Is Moving On.' The ballad was by the British songwriting team of Doug Flett and Guy Fletcher, who'd previously written 'Wonderful World,' recorded by Elvis for the film "Live A Little, Love A Little"...''"〕 The song had been written for Cliff Richard as a proposed entry for the Eurovision Song Contest, and was released in June 1968 on the EP ''Congratulations: Cliff Sings 6 Songs For Europe''.〔(''Congratulations: Cliff Sings 6 Songs For Europe'' ), recording details of Cliff Richard EP at 45cat.com showing release date of June 1968, retrieved 4 June 2014〕〔(Recollection of co-writer Doug Flett ) at dougflett.com, retrieved 4 June 2014: ''“Wonderful World” was written for Cliff Richard and entered in the Song for Europe Competition to find the UK’s Eurovision entry in ’68. It came third but Cliff recorded it, as EMI wanted an EP of the first four songs. Our publisher, seeing its potential played it to Elvis who evidently loved it. I think Cliff was quite chuffed that Elvis recorded ‘his’ song.''〕 It was also covered by Mireille Mathieu in a French version, and by Siw Malmkvist in Swedish.〔Billboard - 6 April 1968 - Page 41: ''Elvis Presley will sing "Wonderful World," written by Guy Fletcher and Doug Flett and third in the British eliminating Eurovision contest, over the opening credits of his next movie. Carlin publishes the song, which will be covered in France by Mireille Matthieu and in Sweden by Siw Malmqvist, and is included in a Cliff Richard Eurovision EP''. "〕
